Albert Ametller has held positions of responsibility at a number of leading sports organisations and has extensive experience as a teacher. Currently he is in charge of the vocational training programmes at Agora International School Barcelona, an activity that he combines with his other responsibilities in the sporting arena. In a recent interview with El Cargol, Albert outlines the keys to understanding the success of the Vocational Training (VT) programmes at Agora IS Barcelona, which include: a forward-thinking educational curriculum; a broad-based training approach; courses that are focused on the professional reality of today’s world; national and international links, and some impressive sports facilities.

Albert begins by explaining the purpose of the Sport and Leisure VT programme, which forms part of a Europe-wide focus on offering quality Vocational Training as an effective response to the current needs of the labour market. The courses are delivered in line with principles that permeate the centre’s overall philosophy: a culture of effort and determination, clear and critical thinking, emotional and social considerations and a whole series of values that form a crucial part of our students’ personal and professional development at this stage. As in all of Agora International School Barcelona’s educational stages, in addition to their academic development, our students are encouraged to develop both as individuals and as members of the wider community.

Albert also talks about the training programmes that are currently available and the supplementary factors that support the main curriculum, which include talks by professionals at the top of their field, psychological services, expert sports coaching and reduced class sizes, and finally, focussing on the needs of each individual student in order to enable them to achieve their full potential. Albert also highlights the possibility of obtaining a double qualification in Sports and English where students are taught by native- speaking professionals and work towards the Official Cambridge English Certificate. The courses are based at the school’s state of the art sports facility on a site measuring more than 40,000 m2, which is equipped with a 25 m indoor swimming pool sports hall, football pitches, basketball, tennis and paddle courts, and Cross and Mountain Bike circuits.
