Guidance and Educational Psychology Department
Our Educational Psychologists are highly trained professionals and experienced in the field of infant and child psychology. We work with children who are experiencing varying degrees of learning difficulties, educational special needs, emotional management issues or gifted and talented children, and offer a wide range of practical solutions to help children who require some form of additional support.
We want to ensure that all our children are given the best opportunity to find their strengths and overcome any difficulties that they may be experiencing, and our Educational Psychology department works with students, parents and teachers to ensure that every child is offered the extra support needed in a structured and coordinated approach. Our psychologists deal with the individual educational needs of the students under their care, identifying the best ways to help the children move forward emotionally, socially and/or educationally. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the child’s family and with their teachers to ensure a coordinated response and to ensure that all the resources and additional support required is put in place to help each student achieve their full academic, social and personal potential.
Personalised attention for every individual
Providing specific attention for individual pupils is one of the fundamental principles of the Educational Psychology Department. Close and individualised monitoring enables us to design programmes which allow each pupil to grow at their own pace, offering them the practical, academic and professional support they need to move forward.
The Educational Psychology Department supports new pupils and their families, facilitating the sharing of information between tutors, parents and students and providing guidance and support for new pupils during the adjustment period. We want to be certain that our new pupils settle into their new school as easily and happily as possible so that we can ensure a positive and productive future for them.
Diversity and psychological assessment
Attention to diversity is the key to preventing, detecting and responding to the main difficulties that pupils might encounter throughout the learning process. We work with children experiencing learning difficulties, including attention deficit disorder, reading and writing issues, etc., emotional difficulties including relationships with classmates, inappropriate behaviour, or problems arising from difficult family circumstances, and we also provide support and assistance for gifted and talented children who have their own particular set of needs and requirements.
Support for families and teachers
The Educational Psychology Department Works in direct collaboration with tutors, teachers, families and external agencies (psychologists, psychiatrists, support teachers, etc) to provide appropriate support for each child’s specific needs.
The department encourages parents and family members to come and talk through any issues that they might have and also organises parent group discussions and workshops, all designed to support and contribute to your child’s educational progress. The department also works to optimise teamwork and collaboration throughout the school to ensure that home/school communication is as efficient and effective as possible.
